Description

Drawing for the contest "Tasoula The Rogue", by *Lauraurora.

Actually I´d like to improve this pencil sketch for a watercolour piece, but I´m afraid I won´t have enough time until this Sunday, when is the deadline of the contest. So, I`m submitting this one. I hope the organizer at least appreciates the idea. :)

This is my first attempt at doing a Critique because I thought I wasn't able to since I'm not a premium member, but it looks like the site is letting me anyway. I'm impressed with how well you handle the wrinkling of fabric, this is a study in itself which many struggle with. That being the case, I'm surprised at the flaws in anatomy which is often learned first. (Mind you, I'm far from perfect myself in that, but I'm working on it a lot as I do see what a tremendous difference it makes when I get it right). As it stands, for instance, it looks as if her leg is broken and her arm seems to have to bend in an unnatural way to fit into the pose, whereas it could be done much more smoothly if more correctly proportioned. Your use of shading and crosshatching is quite good also, BTW---I'd just suggest studying up on some basic figure drawing, I recently found an excellent book on this I've found very helpful, I believe it was published by North Light Books and is a reprint of one from the 1950s.
